UA Rich Mountain Ode Maddox Student Union

Overview

After the completion of the University of Arkansas Rich Mountain Master Plan, MAHG was awarded the student housing and food service expansion projects. The extensive renovation and addition to the Ode Maddox Building were required to meet the needs of the incoming student residences, and the retail bookstore was also designed to rebrand the overall volume as the Student Union. The 3,300 square foot addition and 5,500 square foot renovation provided an increased seating space, kitchen, private dining room, bookstore, and support spaces. With tall windows peeking into the new dining and bookstore spaces, both the interior and exterior begin to blend, putting the student environment as well as school merchandise on display.

The addition also worked to respond to the neighboring Performing Arts Center. With a redesigned plaza, students can utilize the space in between the two buildings as a circulation path as well as an outdoor seating area.
