Learning & Research Center @ Boreham Library
Overview
After designing the replacement for the college’s existing library in 1987, MAHG was once again called upon to expand the University’s library facility.
The existing 29,000 s.f. building features a two-story open reading room at the front of the triangular-shaped structure, oriented to the northwest. The glass facade of the first-floor portion of the reading area is deeply recessed for protection from the sun and opens to the courtyard entrance and to the main part of the campus beyond. The remainder of the first floor provides stack space, library workrooms, administrative offices, and the audio-visual department.
The new expansion for the Boreham Library emphasizes customer service by building upon the library’s traditional resources to include the latest in electronic information services. The addition of 42,000 square feet of new space combined with the existing 29,000 square feet of existing space supports and facilitates an effective blend of the library of today and the library of tomorrow. The addition allows for the Library’s Collection to increase significantly while also providing more user seating.
