Greenwood Police Department
Overview
With the growth within the City of Greenwood and a 2014 needs assessment, the Greenwood Police Department put together a strategic plan to build a new department facility. After assessing multiple sites throughout the City, a site in the center of the City was selected. The site had an existing 5,000 s.f building and with a new 5,000 s.f. addition, the resulting new police department will fulfill the majority of the needs outlined in the needs assessment and vastly improve the efficiency within the department. The new building was awarded LEED Silver certification under the USGBC’s LEED NC V3 rating system.
Sustainable features of the project include:
- Drought tolerant landscaping – with drip irrigation
- Recycled Content in many of the building materials
- Light colored roof for Solar Reflectivity
- High-Performance Glass
- Occupant controllability on HVAC and Lighting systems.
- Occupancy Sensors for lighting
- Building Management System for the heating and cooling
- Recycling of construction waste
- Dedicated parking spaces for fuel-efficient vehicles
- Bike Racks and trails connecting to the community to encourage walking and biking
- Reduction of site lighting pollution.
- On-site commissioning of all HVAC and electrical equipment
- Storage and collection of recyclables
- Improved indoor air quality performance
