Airport Rescue & Firefighting Station
Overview
This new 3-bay, 9,000 square foot Air Rescue Firefighting (ARFF) Station will serve the Fort Smith Regional Airport with aircraft fire protection. With numerous visibility and encroachment constraints in the airport proper, site layout and building volumes played a critical role in the organization and success of the station. The building itself is separated into a service volume that houses the rescue and firefighting equipment, and a smaller residential volume that provides for the team diligently watching over the airport. The residential wing program includes a multi-use training space, kitchen, fitness center, and 4 bedrooms.
Throughout the duration of the project, our design and construction administration teams worked tirelessly with owners, experts in relevant fields, regulatory boards, and many other stakeholders to provide a finished product that, as Fort Smith Mayor George McGill stated “follows all of the rules and regulations required of this type of building, while providing a little something extra.”
