Fort Smith CBID Strategic Plan
Overview
The Central Business Improvement District (CBID) engaged MAHG Architecture to identify strategic, actionable projects aimed at increasing the use and vibrancy of downtown Fort Smith. The goal was to propose initiatives that could be realistically implemented within a 2–4 year timeframe, while taking into account feasibility, cost, and potential obstacles.
Following an initial workshop in late 2023, CBID commissioners discussed priorities and identified key areas for improvement, including better connectivity, enhanced pedestrian experiences, and livelier public spaces. Based on this input, the following priority projects were outlined:
- A Street Pedestrian Promenade
- Riverfront Gateway
- South Pedestrian Connection
- Garrison Avenue Crossing at 3rd Street
- Garrison City Park
- Court Street Connector
- Art Walk Connector
- Parking Garage Connector and Transit Hub
- Cisterna Pedestrian Promenade and Lawn
- Cisterna Plaza and 10th Street Improvements
- A Street Complete Street
- Directional Signage
These projects reflect a coordinated effort to elevate the accessibility, functionality, and appeal of the downtown core.
