Mulberry High School Safe Room

Overview

MAHG designed a 3,000 square foot FEMA-rated Safe Room for the Mulberry-Pleasant View School District, providing a critical facility to ensure the safety and well-being of students and staff during severe weather events. This multi-purpose building includes not only the primary storm shelter space, but also integrated restrooms, a generator room for backup power during emergencies, and a fully equipped weight room to support the school’s athletic programs.

The structure was constructed using robust precast concrete wall panels and double tee roofing components, chosen for their strength, durability, and ability to meet FEMA 361 and ICC 500 standards for storm resistance. Strategically located on campus for accessibility, the facility serves as both a day-to-day fitness and training space and a life-saving shelter during hazardous weather. The design reflects a thoughtful balance between safety, functionality, and long-term resilience.
