Oliver Springs Elementary School
Overview
The new elementary school will foster greater student involvement and wider community involvement by encouraging after-hours use of building facilities. The design features a plan divided into two parts: on the East side lies the recreational facilities such as the gymnasium, kitchen and cafeteria, and stage; on the West side lies the private spaces like classrooms and offices; in between the two wings will be the main corridor and entryway. The private wing can be closed off while the recreational wing can become the setting of sporting games, performances, ceremonies, etc. throughout the year.
The 60,000 s.f. building answers the increase in student population as a result of re-zoning. In addition to recreational spaces, classrooms, and offices, the new school will feature a reading room, a computer lab, and a fine arts space. MAHG’s two-story, linearly organized design minimizes the building footprint and cost while providing the facilities necessary to support stronger student and community involvement.
