Greenwood Freshman Center
Overview
“The building itself is beautiful, full of hope, and endless possibilities.” — Dr. Cody Chatman (Greenwood Freshman Center Principal)
To answer the growing student population, the 53,000 s.f. Freshman Center addition to the existing high school brings new opportunity to Greenwood students in the form of 16 new classrooms, 4 project laboratory settings, two science laboratories, an art room, and an extensive administrative area.
The Center connects physically and visually to the existing high school building, acting as the new formal entry for the school. During design, MAHG found that circulation to the existing offices lacked ease of access and posed several security issues. With several entrances, there was difficulty in wayfinding. To solve this problem, the design for the Center moved offices into a centralized location, creating a glass entryway with a connection to the outside; the main access became easily identified and controlled, solving both wayfinding and security issues.
