Van Buren Public Library

Overview

The Crawford County Library System made the decision that their current facility could no longer adequately serve the needs of the Van Buren Community. Working with MAHG and design architect Meyer, Scherer, and Rockcastle, Ltd., the Library System and the community set out to decide what their new facility should be in a very public process.

The resulting library, located in the center of town, incorporates the elements gleaned from the community’s input. From the exposed wood trusses in the reading room to the screened reading porch facing the adjacent residential neighborhood, the library reflects the character of its users.

The colorful Children’s Library has a space for crafts and Story Hour, while the Genealogy Room and small study rooms provide a place for quiet research. The Large Community Room is available to the public after library hours and has access to a kitchen along the “L”-shaped entry spine.
